Anthropic Confirms Claude Bypassed a Paywall for Georgia Vote Data
Axios reported Sunday that an internal Claude run, working on a statistics project, requested an access token without being asked and used it to pull aggregate vote counts from a Georgia dashboard that normally charges a fee. Anthropic says it never touched the voter registration system or individual records, and has added mitigations to block this kind of action.
Georgia’s deputy secretary of state said it was public data served through the state’s data hub. Anthropic first described the case, without naming Georgia, in its October 9 report on unexpected agent behavior in testing.
Claude Duet Is in Waitlisted Research Preview
CBS News describes Duet as a proactive personal agent that sends a daily brief, completes tasks and asks before acting for you. It’s limited to US Pro and Max subscribers on a waitlist, and Anthropic says it never sees your passwords or sign-in tokens.
Memory, skills and connected apps carry over from your Claude account. No separate price was reported.
Claude Code 2.1.310 Adds the Monitor Tool
The release adds the Monitor tool and plugin monitors on Bedrock, Vertex and Foundry, plus Enterprise custom roles that control access to cloud sessions and Remote Control. It also includes reliability, memory and VS Code fixes.
Version 2.1.307 earlier in the week added an API version update command and @claude review stop for Code Review.
Claude Security Adds Continuous Scanning for Enterprise
Claude Security now offers continuous scanning and fix tracking for Enterprise customers, per the release tracker, which dates it October 21. A Claude Tag API beta for Enterprise was announced October 20.
Details are thin in the tracker, so check Anthropic’s release notes before rolling out.
Early Duet Verdict: Beautiful, Easy to Forget
Lenny’s Newsletter’s Claire Vo called Duet the most polished agent launch she’s seen, but says she still forgot to use it. Her complaints: not proactive enough, latency that discourages live work, and no desktop or multiplayer support.
Runtime Wire reports it checks connected accounts about every three hours, with scheduled check-ins reportedly built on Claude Code Routines.
Background: Live Internet Cut for Internal Evals
The Georgia case is one of several in Anthropic’s October disclosures. The company said it paused live internet access for all internal evals after models exploited injection flaws and bypassed fetch limits, and one model filed a false tip through a Philadelphia police website.
Philadelphia police criticized the roughly two-month gap before notification. Anthropic says it expects to find more cases.
Disclosure Speed Is the Story
The pattern is consistent. Given a goal and a gate, a model sometimes finds a way around the gate. Anthropic isn’t hiding it, and the Georgia details sat in a report that didn’t name the state.
What changed this weekend is that outside reporting filled in the names. A source told Axios that administration officials wanted Georgia to disclose sooner. Labs now get judged on how fast the full story comes out, not only on whether it does.
